Kegan's face was a mask of shock as he watched the shards of black metal flash past him. Each fragment seemed to spin individually as it passed, reflecting his face, his glazed eyes and the stunned expression reflected in them. He was only dimly aware of a strong, iron-gloved hand gripping him by the shirtfront and hurling him back, with only him instinct prompting him to shield himself as he crashed into a pyramid of clayware.
That is not to say he shielded himself in the sense that he covered his chest with his arms in a limited attempt to protect himself. He shielded himself with an iridescent layer of violet that absorbed the impact of the crash and protected him from the needling points of the broken ceramics. Still his eyes did not move, fixed in place as though reliving the feeling of metal splintering in his hands. The world went a glassy white around him.
The next thing he knew, a rough hand was shaking him by the shoulder, "Dad, snap out of it!"

His opponent turned to him, her black coat flaring around her legs and smiled, "Perhaps not, Ash." Cynthia retorted, "I am the Sinnoh champion after all."
Ash grinned, "Maybe, but I'll still win"
He turned around and took stock of their surroundings. His platform backed up to a window with a beautiful view of the sea, Cynthia's guarded a door to the Hall of Fame. Ash smiled again, that's where he was headed.
The referee called the match, "This will be a six-on-six match, between the Champion Cynthia, and the challenger, Ash Ketchum of Pallet Town, additionally, only the challenger may substitute Pokémon. Begin!"
"Go, Spiritomb!" Cynthia called as she tossed the red and white Pokéball to the field below summoning the keystone from which spread a purple haze, Spiritomb.
"Floatzel, I choose you!" Ash threw his Pokéball, and out came the blue and orange otte
